The costs to all of us of impure products, dirty water, or an otherwise polluted environment are staggering. Timely information is essential for addressing these problems and advanced analytical instrumentation is key to providing that information.  As Z. Chen, PhD. of General Green International states: "The LabNavigator System from Forston Labs represents the future for this type of product”.

Portable analytical instrumentation to monitor everything from temperature to the presence and concentrations of hydrocarbons in water and soils is necessary to maintain human and environmental health and safety.  In the past, these measurements have required a sophisticated analytical laboratory filled with multiple instruments, and highly-skilled employees.

Founded in 2009, Forston Labs brings together diverse new technologies into one interface that is portable, easy to use, and affordable.  The LabNavigator System provides a rugged handheld interface for over thirty different sensor types including a small, portable, easy to operate gas chromatograph- the Mini GC. An application that requires multiple instruments from other vendors can be performed with a single LabNavigator.

The simplicity and combination of common software and multiple sensor technologies lowers laboratory training time, lowers costs by providing advanced analyses in real time at the point of sample collection, and reduces laboratory workload and cost of instrumentation. This same simplicity provides minimally-trained users with the ability to make high quality measurements and perform advanced analyses with minimal supervision.

The three founders of Forston Labs have over sixty combined years of experience in the fields of water quality and environmental analysis.  This experience covers a wide range of knowledge and functions through executive management, account management, product management, marketing communications, engineering and product design, technical support, and sales.

Forston Labs launched the LabNavigator System in March, 2010 at the Pittsburgh Conference for Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy (PITTCON).  Named one of the top ten new products for 2010 by attendees, the LabNavigator was very well received.

In addition to a full line of sensors for the LabNavigator, Forston Labs has also developed custom sensors for unique applications. For example, we have developed a sensor for measuremwnt of dissolved oxygen in seawater to monitor coral reef health off the western coast of Florida.  Forston Labs sensors are being used to monitor chemical baths used in paper manufacturing, contaminants in municipal water wells, fertilizer application on farms, and water quality in the Mississippi and Gulf of Mexico. A unique method using the LabNavigator to detect adulteration of extra virgin olive oil was developed. It has been estimated that 180,000 tons of adulterated extra virgin olive oil was imported into the U.S. in 2008-2009.

Our affordable but highly-capable gas chromatograph (GC) can be configured to customer specifications so that it can be used in the field or in the lab to separate and quantify the components in a wide variety of samples. Our GC can be configured with several options for sample introduction including gas sampling valves, an autosampler for liquid samples, purge and trap, split/splitless injector, and sixteen different detector options including FID, TCD, ECD, PID, and NPD. Thus, our GC can be used to perform analyses of a wide variety of samples including methane and other hydrocarbon gases in air, volatile organics in water, and pesticides, herbicides, and chlorinated solvents in water or soils.

At Forston Labs, we stand behind all of our products with a dedication to providing excellent customer service.
